Interior Idea: Cabin Love

Summer time is vacation time. Currently, we can see many Mediterranean inspired interiors around the bloggersphere. White washed homes, bright colour accents, sleek pools. So I've decided to share another holiday idea today. Let's think of a refreshing escape to the mountains, a remote lake or a rugged coast. Out in the wilderness we come to enjoy fine and simple interior design - yes, I am speaking of cabin love.

I've spotted this marvelous cabin example on Marie Claire Maison and couldn't help but share it here with you. It is the lush home of a Dutch interior designer couple and features some amazing design pieces by Eames, Wegner, Castiglioni, Navone, Missoni & co. as well as a dominant use of wood - a design cabin if you want so. I particularly love the kitchen design with urban subway tiles to counteract the cabin look and the use of textiles, colours and patterns in the bedroom for a dreamy touch of orient.

5 Happy Inspirations: The Blogger Wishlist

Today's '5 Happy Inspirations' come as a blogger wishlist. To be precise: as my blogger wishlist. The idea was triggered by a blogger competition organized by the German community 'So leb ich' (literally: That's how I live) for everyone loving homes and interiors. They are celebrating the 'six months-versary' of their shopping section which rounds-up some of Germany's finest design online stores. Bloggers were asked to pick five favorite pieces and at the end of the competition seven lucky bloggers will win one of their chosen goodies. Well, you don't have to tell me twice - here are my '5 Happy Inspirations' from the 'So leb ich' shopping section:

1. The Ferm Living cushion is one of my all-time favorites - loving the colours and the graphic design.

2. The absolute classic: The Eames DSW chair in black by Vitra. Sigh. Just sigh.

3. I would be as happy as a pear if I had the Enzo Mari illustration 'Due, la pera' in my home!

4. I fell in love with the Mañana lamp by Design House Stockholm during my Sweden trip in March!

5. There is no happier hanger in the world than Eames' 'Hang it all' by Vitra. A must for a happy home!

Today's Craving

Despite the beginning of a new, busy week, despite twelve hours in the office, despite a rather chilly day outside - despite all of that, I feel content, easy-going and yes, happy. It took just a few little things. A cup of green tea with aloe, some inspiring blog reading, a bit of pinning fun on Pinterest and writing this blog post. Today I am craving a sleek and urban style - I am looking at my black and white chevron rug and nod. Yes, I like it! Happy Tuesday!

5 Happy Inspirations: Design Chairs

Today I am focusing on five design classics. I love chairs. And I'd love to own one of these amazing design chairs. I am seriously considering to buy a Hardoy Butterfly chair but still pondering on where and how to arrange it in my small apartment. If I had a bigger space and - yes - a bigger budget, I'd go for all of these:

1. Acapulco Chair: The iconic 1950s Mexican chair combines both retro and contemporary coolness. The turquoise version is an amazing eye catcher for bright apartments.

2. Eames DSW Chair: Another 1950s classic by Charles and Ray Eames. I love the DSW version with maple wood legs is a subtle yet stylish accent for any modern home - be it as a dining chair or home office chair.

3. Hardoy Butterfly Chair: This chair was designed in 1938 by Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy and has been reproduced in so many versions. The framing comes in varieties such as stainless steel or black and the changing covers ensure an individual fit for any room. My favorite would be a brown worn leather version with black framing. 

4. Bertoia Diamond Chair: Yet another mid-century superstar, the Bertoia Diamond Chair available through Knoll Studio, is a masterpiece of bent metal with a typical mid-century fixture. It's classic and modern - and upholstery solutions add comfort. Or you simply throw a sheep skin on it - effortlessly classy. 

5. Hans J. Wegner Shell Chair: Danish designer Hans J. Wegner created this stunning chair in 1963 made of bent plywood thus achieving a floating lightness due to its wing-like seat and the arching curves of its tapered legs. Sometimes it's also referred to as 'smiling chair'. It certainly puts a smile on my face.

Happily Ever After: 1950s Interior Design

I'd like to live happily ever after with...interior design inspired by the quirky and stylish 1950s! Join me today on a funny retro time travel - and the easiest way to do so is with happy interior design inspired by the 1950s.

Think of "Some Like It Hot", Elvis Presley, Cary Grant, the upcoming Pop Art, or even movies like The Talented Mr. Ripley that brought a past era back to our screens and simultaneously revived a very distinct, stylish and somewhat quirky approach to interior styling. Kidney-shaped tables, brighter colours than in previous decades, patterned wallpaper - all these an much more marked the 1950s, the 'era of the consumer'. Some of the greatest designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Robin and Lucienne Day, or Arne Jacobsen set design classic in the 1950s - classics to last forever! Even today many of us love and cherish a mid-century influenced interior style that highlights the unique and timeless design of a past decade. We rummage on flea markets, we forage our parents' attics, or cherish the vintage furniture given to us by our grandparents. Enough reasons to make a toast to the 1950!
