Summer Idea: Southwest Ranch Escape

Summer is almost here and I am daydreaming about new travels and adventures. This time I am coveting a southwest ranch escape. A lot of wood, Navajo patterns, vibrant colours and an open shower under the hot sun. Add all this to a fresh breeze through the home and an ice cold Mojito in my hand on the ranch's porch. Now tell me this is not a fab idea for a summer escape?

Home Tour: Cute Details & Design Classics

I take it as given that you who read these lines love homes and interior designs. Thus, I guess you are a bit like me. When I visit friends or when I get invited for the first time to a new home, I can't help but let my eyes wander around and look at everything - from the bold elements to the cute, little details. And if I am asked whether I'd like a home tour, you already know my answer.

Now as I am not so lucky as to be constantly invited to new, inspiring homes, I am a bit rude and invited myself into beautiful homes by visiting them through interior magazines. When I popped over at one of my beloved Danish interior magazines, Bolig Magasinet, I spotted this happy home. I love the little, personal details in combination with some all-time design classics such as the Eames rocking chair and 'Hang it All' rack, the Tom Dixon, Louis Poulsen and George Nelson pendants or the Wegner Wishbone chair. And at the end of this little home tour I told myself: I need a nice design classic to enhance my home. Do you have a design classic at home?

A Traveler's Colourful Loft

I think it is an open secret that I am an avid traveler. Traveling is essential for me. While traveling the world, I learn new things, I broaden my mind, I reflect a lot - and I collect. Inspiration and tidbits. Little things that will remind me of a certain moment in a certain location.

Seeing this traveller's lofty home in Paris was like opening a book and reading in it. Noticing his passion to conquer the world. To chase colours on ancient routes. To sail the oceans with the wind. To wander hot savannas. And from each of his trips he's brought a tiny bit of inspiration back. The vibrant colours of the orient, the animal prints from Africa, the maritime art from seaside destinations and the textured, grey elements from the north. And all this has found a new home in a spectacular loft with a stunning view of Paris rooftops. Bliss.

Happily Ever After: Stella Harasek

If only my Finish was a bit better. Ok, ok, if only I understood Finish at all. Then I'd be able to tell you if this is the home of the Finish freelance writer and photographer Stella Harasek or this stylish home was just shot by her. Either way - this lady has style. Oh yes.

I don't even know where to start with my devoted admiration. Do I point out that classy Butterfly chair by Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy? Do I favour the neutral colour palette, the abundance of natural light, the quirky magazine rack? What I love most about this home is its honesty. Its unpretentious being. Its personality. Its lived-in atmosphere. This is not a neatly styled high-gloss mansion. It's not a museum-like collection of paraphernalia. It is not an over-stylized design gallery. And that is predominately why I love this home. It is a real home. One that you'd love to come back at the end of the day.

Interior Design Perfection

Ok, seriously, where have I been? How have I missed this photographer's amazing work so far? How haven't I seen his super stunning Stockholm apartment? I refer to the stylish home of Swedish photographer Jonas Ingerstedt. His home has been featured in Elle Deco UK (and other magazines I assume) and is oh so swoon worthy!

The simplicity of the interior design and decoration, the plethora of design classics such as the Wegner charis, the Toio floor lamp by Achille Castiglioni, the Louis Poulsen pendant and so on. The colour palette is also a major factor here - lots of white, soft and vibrant colour pops, and wood, truly a Scandinavian symphony. Wouldn't you just feel perfectly at home in there? Well, I would. I so would.

Home Tour: Mix Styles & Add Interest

It is no secret that our northern buddies know how to do it. I guess the colder climate and the gloomier days give the Scandinavians lots of time to focus on their homes and to make them as cosy and comfy as possible. And just like that it happens that their homes are among the most stylish ones, too.

This home tour caught my eye as I admire the mix of styles while tying everything together in a interior style framework. The industrial elements in the kitchen, the quirky wallpaper and the country style furniture in the living room seem to be contradictory yet they work well together as the overarching black and white theme ties them together. This concept is extended to the other rooms, too.  A romantic table lamp, a vintage dressing table and a bright yellow Tolix chair? Yes, it works! It's all about finding a certain topic that will be the 'red thread' through your interiors and you are free to mix and match to your personal taste and add a good deal of interest to your home. Do you mix and match at home? If so, what do you like to combine?

Home Tour: Eclectic Mix in New York Loft

Hello back, my friends! I hope Easter treated you well and you are all invigorated and full of creative energy. I enjoyed my mini break and got inspired by a home tour that I found on 'House To Home'. This is an ideal little 'walk through' to get us all back on track to interior design, styling and home decoration. The really essential things in life, right? Ok, humour is important, too.

What I love in this loft apartment is its eclectic mix of styles. I've mentioned a few times that I myself am an indecisive person when it comes to styles. I love the airy interior approach of Scandinavian design, I love the clear and urban vibe of industrial styles, I adore the finesse and texture of vintage finds. And the owner of this apartment seems to have the same soft spots.

The eclectic mix of styles tells a whole story and has so much personality. And that is the factor that wins my heart when it comes to interior design and styling. What are your favorite styles/approaches for your interior styling?

Happily Ever After: Swedish Perfection

Blame me. Booh me. Diss me. I can't help it - this week has been deeply influenced by my trip to Stockholm and yes, this Friday is not different. I am taking you once more to this nordic, highly design-conscious country. And folks, to be honest, wouldn't you be living happily ever after in this Swedish perfection?

The spacious rooms, the high windows with old-style handles letting in tons of natural light, the classic sliding doors, the wooden floors, the scattered design classic, the pops of colour against the dominating whites - what's to not like about it? And seriously, that balcony? Are you kidding me - I so need this kind of apartment. Then it's all done and settled. With the 'happily ever after' I mean. A big hug to all of you. Oh, and TGIF!

Home Tour: Danish Abode With New York Vibe

Today again, we linger in Scandinavia. I told you all about my excitement that I am leaving today to Stockholm. So on the way to the Swedish capital I am taking a little detour with you, my lovely readers, to tour a sophisticated apartment in Copenhagen, the home of a mum of three.

The high ceilings with stucco, the large windows, double winged doors and a plethora of design classics magically merge the sophisticated Scandinavian style with a grand New York vibe.

The thoughtfully chosen colours, the dapper decoration and the refined furniture and textiles come into their own in this all-white space. Pay attention to the wooden floor and the modern fireplace - I could definitely feel at home here. But for now, I am heading a bit farther to the north. Stockholm, I am on my way!

Home Tour: Eclectic London Home

This Hampstead based eclectic home is the humble dwelling of Sam Roddick, the daughter of Body Shop founder Anita Roddick. The Victorian house is a real masterpiece of interior design. The eclectic interior results from a refined mélange of a variety of styles. Romantic corners counterpart the clear, strict minimalism of the dining room with a touch of mid-century. The industrial kitchen is juxtaposed to a vintage styled living room, the modern bathroom in enriched by baroque elements whereas the master bedroom opens the doors to a disco glam world of glitter and vibrant colours. I love the abundance of style, details and colours in this home. While I usually love white, bright Scandinavian spaces, I must admit, I'd move into this Victorian gem right away. Glam it up, babe!

Home Tour: Style + Kids At Home

I don't know how many of you are already parents, but having small kids around is certainly a beautiful and joyous feeling and experience. I am a happy uncle of two little nieces and two little nephews, and every time they are around I have a real kiddo blast. However, I must prepare. Breakables and beloved memorabilia have to be lifted to 'higher grounds' and the place needs to be 'kid safe'.

Sometimes it looks as though, once kids are moving in, you have to let go of your desire for styling, home decoration or expensive design furniture for your interiors. This little Scandinavian home proves that wrong. Style and kids can be at home, simultaneously! Truth be told, it won't be always neat and tidy, but life is a mess, well, at least sometimes. The magic seems to be in a somewhat more playful approach to design and interior styling. Another big plus is to keep enough free space for the little ones to have enough room to play and feel free. And yes, remember the one with breakables and beloved memorabilia. After all, nice floating shelves are pretty stylish, too. Do you handle kids and interior design simultaneously? I'd love to hear your story!
