Happy Guest: Shop Sweet Things

Hello, Happy Interior Blog readers! How’s everyone? I’m Jeanne from Shop Sweet Things, a San Francisco lifestyle blogger who loves to share her discoveries on shopping, fashion, and living. I’m really excited to be here today while Igor is away enjoying his well-deserved break.

Just like you, I’m a HUGE fan of Igor! So when he asked me to be one of his guests this week, I was really flattered! I met Igor a little earlier before he started the Happy Interior Blog. We met through a virtual Pinterest party he hosted with Holly of Decor8, and from then on I was smitten by his charming personality. When he launched his Happy Interior Blog, I followed it from day one. I just knew it would be good stuff. And boy, do we share a similar taste?!  I think we both are very fond of fun, quirky and stylish design. I’m always impressed with the products and inspirations he finds for his blog (who isn’t, anyway?!) And while he talks about all things happy, I talk about all things sweet. So, in a way, we complement each other like peanut butter and jam.

However, I think where we really connected is that we both enjoy finding happiness in simple things – without giving up on style, that is! I believe this is why Igor has always been a huge supporter of my column, “Sweet Things Under $20.” So for this guest post, I thought it would only be fitting to turn his favorite column on my blog into “Happy Things Under $20”.  Do you like? I apologize in advance that this is in dollars and not in euros, but you get the idea. J

Hope I did a good job filling in for Igor. It’s truly my pleasure to be here and happy day to all!

How About Some Fashion For Home?

Forget the New York Fashion Week. I am talking serious stuff here. Tangible stuff. I am talking about 'Fashion For Home'. Who wouldn't like a bit of fashion for the own dwelling, right? I added a stylish bit of fashion to my home with a new highlight - a brand new coffee table made of walnut wood with a refined white metal detail between the top and the table's legs. Now we talk prêt-à-porter!

'Fashion For Home' is an excellent resource for stylish and affordable furniture. When they approached me and asked me whether I'd like to present one of their pieces I was more than flattered. And the timing was just about perfect. My old Ikea coffee table has suffered seriously over the years leaving some irreversible scratch marks on its top and screaming for renewal. So here it is. The successor: the Copine coffee table by Sean Dix. And oh, I am in love with it!

So if you are looking for a new sofa, cool chairs, a stylish bed, colourful accessories or a coffee table too - 'Fashion For Home' has a great selection of designer furniture to very accessible prices and is available in the US, UK, the Netherlands, Austria and Germany. My verdict: happiness for homes approved!

From Place To Space: Blogger Fun In Munich

First of all: I am sorry for not taking you to a new destination today but staying local. Yep, this time I am Munich bound. But I had a very good reason to stay in Munich: I was expecting one of my favorite fellow bloggers and good friend Will aka Mr. Bazaar from London for a visit. Moreover, we had a little but totally international blogger meet-up by welcoming our Canadian fellow blogger Tim from Designmaze on Sunday, too.

You might remember Will's and my adventures through xmassy Munich last year. This time, we explored a more summery version of the city and discovered a few exciting places. Friday was the best time for an after work drink and chat at the stylish Aroma Kaffeebar in Munich's hip Glockenbach quarter, whereas Saturday was reserved for a more extensive shopping & shooting endeavour throughout the city.

We started the day with a good brunch at the lovely Café Fräulein with its charming vintage décor and shabby chic feel. I love the fact that styles that do not necessarily reflect your personal taste (like in this case) can nonetheless enchant you when they're well executed. After the refreshment we headed to a few inspiring stores and snapped along the way. We foraged through the vintage furniture store Delikatessen and encountered some amazing retro light pendants and rustic industrial stools.

To counteract the somewhat industrial and rustic feel of the first store, we headed over to Ladoug - a tiny boutique with a well chosen selection of beautiful furniture, textiles and decoration accessories, many of them with an artisan origin. The overall feel is more natural, ethnic and full of textures. A great place to satisfy all senses!

Walking through Munich downtown dragged us involuntarily to some of the high street stores, too. We hopped into Butlers to examine their colourful table settings and once again I fell in love with the Hamam inspired table cloths and picnic blankets. Saturday night was rounded up by a fantastic dinner in one of Munich's 'places to be' Theresa restaurant. I blogged about that restaurant here and believe me - if you ever come to Munich, you will want to go there and satisfy your palate and your design craving eye.

Sunday was reserved for a meet-up with our blogger friend Tim and we took him for a drink and walk through Munich's several parks to enjoy the war sunrays and a leisurely Sunday. And in between all these undertakings, Will and I managed to style up my little abode, buy some extra props and shoot my apartment for an upcoming little home story. So stay tuned! Enough for now, happy Monday friends!

From Place To Space: A Summer Walk In Munich

On Mondays, you are quite used to my little endeavours and adventures throughout Europe and sometimes beyond. This time, I've decided to stay local. I've thought it is time to show you a bit around my hood. Munich is very charming in summer. It is a leafy city with lots of green spaces. We have huge parks, a river with alpine waters, biking and jogging trails, little forest and plenty of lawns to enjoy the sun and a good book.

So I've put on my walking shoes aka flip flops, charged my iPhone and off I went for a little summer walk through Munich. I've snapped around and here are a few shots of my little cruise. On the way, I've discovered a new and adorable decoration store with a café called 'Livingroom'. They have a beautiful assortment of mostly French brocante - a true heaven for anyone in love with the rustic French country style or shabby chic. And the café serves uh-mazing homemade cakes and creamy coffees. After this little walk I feel refreshed and invigorated to kick off a new week. Happy Monday everyone!

From Place To Space: Bloggers In Hamburg

Today I am taking you to a super fun trip – a blogger meet-up in Hamburg. The past weekend some great German bloggers organised a meet-up in the northern German city and set the basis for a personal get-together of some of Germany’s finest lifestyle bloggers writing about interior design, DIY, food, styling. Our Hamburg ‚home base’ was the stylish design hotel 25 Hours Hotel.

For me it was a pretty exciting trip. First of all I got to meet some fellow bloggers that I’ve been following on the net for quite a time. Secondly, I had the opportunity to get a better introduction to the cool city of Hamburg.

Our blogger weekend kicked-off with a urban breakfast in a superb location called ‚Fabrik’. On Saturdays this industrial hall hosts a local farmer’s market, live music and delicious breakfasts and brunches.

After gallons of coffee and heaps of yummy food we headed to explore the western borough of Altona – a cool mix of suburban culture and non-mainstream shops like the ‚Kaufmannsladen’ or the famous candy store ‚Bonscheladen’. Later on we continued downtown to the so-called ‚Hafen City’, the harbour area with its huge cruises, a mix of old and modern architecture and a brisk ‚North Sea’ type of breeze.

After a good deal of fresh sea breeze, we went back to the famous Eimsbüttel area for some more shopping and interiors and decoration inspiration. We discovered the beautiful boutique ‚Interiör’ with a refined selection of design items and DIY materials like happy ribbons, witty gift tags and colourful packaging thread. I couldn’t resist and bought a roll of pastel blue packaging thread and an aqua-hued dip-dyed and handmade Raku candleholder. Just around the corner is another gem, the ‚Kongehus’ store with a stunning selection of paper, stationery and decoration items. I bought a few rolls of beautiful paper and the cutest hand-made cards with quotes from literature written with an old typewriter. A few steps further you will find ‚Lecker Wohnen’, a store with a rich selection of Hamburg inspired goodies and decoration. All these goodies will be featured later on here on Happy Interior Blog.

To add more fun we ended up in a tiny yet adorable little café called ‚Osterdeich’. This location is known for its signature cupcakes – and we were invited to design our very own cupcakes which was big fun. Now I know I am the chocolate-blueberry type. We had all the afternoon to network, exchange experiences, plan new projects and get to know each other more thouroughly which was a unique experience. Moreover we received some amazing goodie bags. Saturday was rounded up with a delightful dinner in the stylish restaurant ‚Klippkroog’ which made our interior design loving hearts skip a beat. A cool mix of urban and Scandinavian style with stuccoed ceilings and eye-catching pendants as well as old, bulky wooden furniture made me enjoy my dinner twice as much.

The entire blogger meet-up was brought to an end with a delish breakfast at the cute ‚Tarterie’ café in Hamburg’s entertainment quarter St. Pauli.

What else can a blogger wish for a weekend? Meeting other bloggers, discovering a new city, shopping in inspiring interior and decoration stores, eat in stylish restaurants? Have a happy week, friends!

P.S. Thanks to Clara, Ricarda and Susanne for the excellent organization!

Happily Ever After: Etsy Love

TGIF. With capital letters. And this Friday I am sharing some capital love from Etsy with you. Sometimes I can simply forget about the time when browsing through Etsy. I am amazed by the plethora of beautiful, predominately handmade pieces in one of the largest online marketplaces. How about adding some colour with this mountain print or setting a statement with a quirky bulb oil lamp? Or are you all chimes & bells with this happy string?

I also loved this hand-painted vase, the granite side table with its stunning combination of natural and industrial style, as well as this little succulent cutie - all available through Etsy!

The wooden puzzle sculpture reminds me of Olle Eksell's iconic eye prints whereas the bowl charmed me with its soft pastel mint hue and organic shape.

The cushion? Simply: j'adore! And the multicoloured basket is so happy it had to go straight on the blog.

And to round things up I picked this catchy red fishing boat pendant with enamel finishing and the cute wooden table with hairpin legs - oh I love hairpin legs so much!! Happy Friday, friends!

5 Happy Inspirations: Fab Wednesday

It's Wednesday again and thus time for a little collage of '5 Happy Inspirations'. After a long day, I sat down for a short break and glanced through the current Fab offers in Germany and my eye got caught by five lovely goodies that I wanted to share with you.

My passion for everything nautical has been expressed frequently so I couldn't help but pick this anchor shirt to add a bit of fashion to my interiors passion. That floor lamp has been a big allurement to me, it was hard to resist (due to my limited space at home). The wooden print by artist Alexander Girard would be a fab companion for my Swedish Olle Eksell poster whereas the vintage book clock would stylishly embellish my white living room wall. And to round things up I've picked this London inspired Victoria Eggs bag. Phew, a FAB Wednesday can begin!

From Place To Space: Stockholm

Here it is. Finally. My special, dedicated post to a fabulous, design savvy city that I visited a week ago: Stockholm. You've been flooded here on Happy Interior Blog with Swedish inspiration over the past few days. I hope I haven't been bothering you too much, but I loved my little Swedish trip so much and it was so inspiring that I had to share all my ideas and thoughts with you. But let me take you now on a little Stockholm trip in a retrospective. Ready? Let's roll!

Stockholm, as almost every city, is organized in various boroughs and the most central and most relevant for visitors are Norrmalm, Gamla Stan, Östermalm, Södermalm, DjurgÃ¥rden and Kungsholmen. I visited every quarter but the latter one. I was staying in a solid, mid-class hotel in Norrmalm and it was just a stone's throw to one of the major shopping thoroughfares, the Drottninggatan. This street leads from the north to the south and it is an ideal way to experience a big variety of cafés, bakeries, shops, department stores. Here you will find amazing shopping temples like the PUB department store with a super extensive homewares section, Scandinavia's biggest department store, the Ahléns with great home decoration and Scandinavian fabrics, and a huge H&M with a big H&M Home store. Luckily, many cafés invite you to have a little break while the number of your shopping bags is continually growing. Just a few streets further, check out the brand new MOOD department store (it opened during my stay) and opposite of it you will find the super lovely Bruka Design store with adorable tableware and home décor. For a great dinner, try the super cool and urban B.A.R. restaurant at Blasieholmsgatan. You will love the industrial interior design and enjoy the delicious cuisine with a focus on fish and sea food. Another tip: For a fabulous start into a Sunday, head to the amazing design hotel Nordic Light Hotel for a fantastic American brunch. The food is beyond yummy, the selection huge, the local DJ takes good care of you for a smooth start into the day and the design surrounding you - I have no words. It was one of the highlights! Not to mention the fact that it is super value for money! At the end of the famous Drottninggatan you will reach the end of Norrmalm and set over to the 'Old Town', to Gamla Stan.

Gamla Stan is something like the touristic heart of Stockholm. Here you have a big number of sights that are must-sees. The Parliament building, the Stockholm Palace, the Storkyrken church, the Stortorget Square, the Nobel Museum, the German church (Tyska Kyrken), and the city's narrowest pathway, the Marten Trotzig path. VästerlÃ¥nggatan is the main shopping street on Gamla Stan and usually packed with picture taking tourists. Nonetheless, risk a little stroll as you will pass the cute little store E. Torndahl with fine Scandinavian design. However, do make a turn and wander the paths off the beaten track and you will find cute, quite corners like the Chaikhana tea salon or the Magnus LadulÃ¥s restaurant with traditional Swedish cuisine. For a little break, stop at the magnificent tiny Chokladkoppen at Stortorget Square - you will enjoy a cup of Stockholm's finest hot chocolate and cakes to die for.

At the end of Gamla Stan you can cross one of the city's many bridges and step over to the hip, southern island named Södermalm. Climb the Slussen Square and you will end up in Götgatan, the island's main commercial street with great stores like Granit with fine homeware in black, white and grey hues. Keep on walking and you will end up in the bustling, hip heart of Södermalm (the area between Götgatan, Folkungagatan, Renstiernas gata, and Ringvägen). Many cafés, restaurants, and shops are lining the way and you will be drawn to real treasure spots: the vintage stores have a huge density in this quarter. Don't miss the cool concept store Grandpa with fashion, deco and vintage furniture. If you love good chocolates, make a pit stop at Chokladfabriken - you won't leave the store empty handed (well, I didn't). On the way back, climb the Katarinavägen street for a great panoramic view of Stockholm and its numerous waterfronts. If you feel like walking a bit more, try the Hornsgatan street and walk it all the way down to the western tip. You will pass the fabulous Mellqvist Kaffebar for a little 'fika' break (traditional coffee and cake break) and at the end of the street you will be rewarded with a visit to the grand Bio Rio cinema from the 1940s with original interior design and a café that takes you back in time. Adjacent is the quirky little Copacabana café with homemade sandwiches and cakes. Both places well worth the walk!
If you fancy a little trip to the opposite island named DjurgÃ¥rden, take the ferry from Slussen. You will enjoy a 20 minutes ferry trip to the park island with century old flora, a huge park, and some fine museums like the Nordic and Vasa Museum. I wandered back from DjurgÃ¥rden via Östermalm (with a fantastic, maritime waterfront - enjoy the many little anchored boats along the water) to Norrmalm. In general, I suggest a lot of walking as it is the best way to see the varieties of Stockholm and discover some hidden, unexpected gems along the way. The city's size is also very ideal for walking adventures - moreover, the public transport is rather costly.

Oh my, there is so much to see and experience. I am pretty sure I forgot many other cool and great spots. But hey, you should discover some places by yourself, too. In a nutshell: If you love design, you'll love Stockholm! Happy start of the week!
