I'm loving..

Rich neutral spaces that layer texture, color, antique rugs and an array of interesting objects and furniture pieces. Designer Kara Mann's work exhibits this style beautifully. Antique rugs are a beautiful impetus for a design concept. This Lake Forest showroom room above is just about perfect, now I've got to find out where she found or commissioned that amazing ceiling fixture from! {update Lyndsey from Kara Mann's office emailed me today - the gorgeous chandelier is called the Lumiere by Jean de Merry - Kara Mann carries the line in her showroom if you have the itch and the funds to buy something dramatic.}

I would love to design a room using the color palette found in this antique rug

I love the mix of furniture in this space. It's earthy but chic. The antique rug adds the depth this room needed! image: Kara Mann

Where I'd love to...

Okay, so I had to post this amazing hallway. Isn't it fabulous? Simple idea really, the graphic white mirrored frames beautifully break up the monotony of this narrow hallway. For a glimpse at this entire home, see yesterday's post on Design Sponge! Gorgeous!

WHY I LOVE SUMMER + DAILY INSPIRATIONS

I'm often asked, where do I seek daily design inspiration from? My answer: everywhere!
Currently I'm loving colorful summery hues, that aren't too sticky sweet!

Jay Jeffers is a master with color, this is a colorfully fun but sophisticated palette.

OF NOTE...BOSTON THIS WEEK + MORE

Boston is a busy place this week! The Boston marathon was today. The Independent Film festival is running April 22-28. For a schedule of films, visit the I.F.F. Boston site here. There is a vast selection of wonderful films playing.

Also, showing in selected theatres is the much anticipated Valentino, The Last Emperor. The documentary chronicles Valentino's haute couture world of fashion and his 50 year relationship with his long term business partner Giancarlo Giammetti. Can't wait to see this one. It's currently playing locally at Coolidge Corner in Brookline and Loews, in Harvard Square.

Where I'd like to..

reside {I'm sure I couldn't resist throwing one simple, graphic pillow on that sofa}

I always love to add a "touch" of glamour, but I'm really drawn to casually chic rooms lately.
I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting older or have a child now, in any case..I crave both fashion and comfort at home and when I get dressed! These rooms are beautifully finished; they each possess just the right amount of ease, sophistication + style!

A NEW favorite...

I was meeting with one of my wonderful clients today, and we both decided that this yummy fabric was a new favorite; so we're using it in her guest room! Amanda Nisbet, the queen of color herself, used this print on the walls in her office.
Fabric: Manuel Canovas, Bengale - Paprika

Speaking of... If you haven't seen Amanda's site lately, she's added some new project images. Here's a peek.

I love the coral and pink combo!

Where I'd like to....

READ THE MORNING PAPER!!!

Seriously, both rooms are beautiful!! I know I broke my rule, but how could I choose between these? and post one? I love the glimpse of the kitchen through the family room in the first shot. It's a what lies beyond moment, that is why I just HAD to post them as a pair.
I could write all day discussing what thrills me about these spaces, but let's start with the amazing mix of colors!!!!! The green and turquoise together{my favorites} are gorgeous and the taupe kitchen is unexpected + earthy. I love white kitchen's with the best of them, but it's nice to change it up!!!

Where I'd like to ...

dine this week..

One of the first things I notice when I enter a room is the quality of natural light. This dining room possess a beautiful casual elegance. I love the contrast of the steel mesh base, wood top and refined black Klismos chairs. The creative quality of the hand printed numbered, linen chair pads adds a hint of whimsy, but it's the gorgeous, oversized doorway overlooking the backyard that really makes this room soar..

I've been seeing stripes...

Graphic or subtle stripes never really go out of style, but I've been spotting them everywhere lately. {left} Who could forget this chic nursery, featured in Domino a few months ago. I've incorporated large, horizontal stripes on the wall in my son's room. {right} The wonderful striped pillows pictured above by Danish artist, Lisbet Friis, would be a great starting point for a casual den or child's room.

{left} I've had this landscape photo stashed away in my files for a while now, I love how the graphic stripe plays off the sculptural pool. {right} Kate Spade's newest creative director, Deborah Lloyd, is introducing clothing and jewelry to the line.
